Short answer
As of October 2026, Muse and Meta Business Agent are two different Meta products. Muse is a personal AI agent that works for you. Meta Business Agent answers a business's customers on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. A business owner usually needs the second for customers, and may use the first for personal errands.
Why people mix them up
Both come from Meta, both launched this year, both appear in WhatsApp, and both are described as AI agents that act rather than just chat. Search results blur them together, and some articles use the names as if they were one product.
They are not. A good rule: Muse works for the person who owns the account. Meta Business Agent works for the business, facing its customers.

Muse for Small Business: a third name to know
To add to the confusion, Meta announced Muse for Small Business on September 29, 2026. This is still Muse, an agent that works for the owner, but tuned for business tasks. It learns what you sell, your tone and common customer questions, flags emails that need replies and drafts content. Connectors include Asana, Canva, Shopify, Stripe, QuickBooks, Slack and Facebook and Instagram business accounts. It does not publish, send or spend without approval.
It helps the owner handle business work. It is not described as the thing customers talk to. Our review, Is Muse for Small Business good?, covers it in detail. Separately, Meta announced a Meta Enterprise Platform business unit on September 28, 2026; no pricing has been published.
Which one fits which job
| Job | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Answer 'are you open Sunday?' on WhatsApp at 9 p.m. | Meta Business Agent | It is the customer-facing product |
| Book yourself a flight and fill in forms | Muse | It is the personal agent |
| Draft a reply to a supplier email | Muse for Small Business | It flags emails and drafts for the owner |
| Take customer bookings on Instagram | Meta Business Agent | It can book appointments |
| Answer calls to your shop number | Neither confirmed | Phone is not confirmed for either |
How a business could use both
Nothing stops an owner from using both. A sensible split is Meta Business Agent on the business WhatsApp number answering routine customer questions, and Muse on the owner's personal account helping with their own email, forms and errands.
Keep the two separate in your head and in your settings. A personal agent should not be given the keys to customer records just because it is convenient, and a customer-facing agent should not be handed the owner's private inbox. Decide what each one may see before you turn either on.
What is reported, not confirmed
A few points come from a single source or from press rather than Meta, so hold them lightly.
- Meta Business Agent limits. One third-party review (eesel.ai) says it replies to customers but does not start conversations, and that handoff-to-human triggers are not configurable.
- Muse prices. The $20 and $100 plans are press-reported; Meta does not list prices.
- Muse privacy. Meta says users can opt out of training; independent analysis reports it is on by default. The Confidential VM is planned, not live.
- Muse launch reports. Press (Inc.) reported Muse reading private messages or accessing email without being asked.
