Short answer
As of October 2026, Meta Muse and OpenAI Dots are both personal agents that work from their own cloud computers. Muse is reachable inside WhatsApp, in the US and Canada, free for most needs. Dots live in ChatGPT, come with Pro and Business Premium, and offer clearer business data defaults.
Same idea, different homes
Both products launched within three weeks of each other this fall, and both promise an agent that keeps working after you stop typing. Muse arrived on September 8, 2026 and Dots on September 29, at OpenAI DevDay.
The difference that matters for a business is where each one lives. Muse lives in Meta's world: its own app, muse.ai and WhatsApp. Dots live inside ChatGPT, with Slack and Microsoft Teams support.

Privacy and data: a real difference
For ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, OpenAI does not train on business data by default. That is a clear default that matters if you are putting customer information into an agent.
Muse is murkier. Meta says users can opt out of interactions being used to train its models, but independent analysis reports the setting is on by default. Meta also says conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems, and that a stronger Muse Confidential VM, encrypted with a key only you hold, is planned later this year, so it is not available yet. Launch-period press, including Inc., reported Muse reading private messages or accessing email without being asked.
Dots are not risk-free either: OpenAI says dots can still make mistakes, which is why its auto-review and monitoring features exist.
Where Muse is the better pick
- You live in WhatsApp and want your agent there.
- You are not paying for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium. Muse has a free tier.
- You run a small shop on Meta tools. Muse for Small Business connects to Facebook and Instagram business accounts and Meta ad accounts.
- You are in the US or Canada and want something light.

A scenario: a two-person bakery
The owner wants orders confirmed, a Saturday-rush phone line covered and Instagram comments answered. With Muse, she gets a personal assistant that can handle emails, forms and errands from her phone, but customers still hit voicemail on Saturday.
With a ChatGPT Business Premium seat, she gets a dot that works between conversations inside ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, though again the phone is a separate matter. In both cases the agent works for the owner, not as a front desk. Which is fine, as long as that is what she is buying.
Where Dots are the better pick
- You already pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, so the first dot is included.
- You work in Slack or Teams and want the agent there.
- You need a business data default that is not an opt-out.
- You are in a region Muse does not cover, as long as your plan allows it. Pro excludes the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, so check yours.

Where neither is enough, and Oraculo
Both are personal agents. Neither has confirmed a business phone line, and neither is built around a team with roles. If your customers call and your staff need supervision, a different category fits.
Oraculo is a managed AI employee. It answers and places calls 24/7 on your business line, replies on WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack, Telegram and email, follows up with every lead in minutes, and tracks your staff against their goals. Starter is $12/hour of work (6-hour weekly minimum, $312/month); Business is $8/hour (43-hour minimum, $1,500/month). Setup is $499 with an engineer, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies. Book a 20-minute demo to compare.
Key takeaway
Choose Dots for ChatGPT-based work with cleaner business data defaults, and Muse for a WhatsApp-based personal agent. For customer calls and team management, look to a managed employee.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better for a small business, Muse or Dots?
Dots suit owners already on ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, with clearer business data defaults. Muse suits solo owners in the US or Canada who want an agent in WhatsApp. Neither confirms phone answering as of October 2026.
Which is cheaper?
Muse is free for most needs per Meta, with reported $20 and $100 plans. Dots are included for one dot with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, where Business Premium is $125 per user per month, or $100 billed annually.
Can I use Dots in WhatsApp?
Dots run in ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams. Texting is listed as coming soon, so WhatsApp is not a dot channel today. Muse, by contrast, is reachable inside WhatsApp.
Does either train on my data?
OpenAI does not train on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu data by default. Meta says Muse users can opt out of training, but independent analysis reports it is on by default. Check settings before sharing business data.
Can either answer my business phone?
Neither has confirmed it. You can voice-chat with your own dot inside ChatGPT, which is not the same as answering a business line. For calls, consider a call-first service or Oraculo.
